Kelsey and Nick | Sundance Studios & The Blue Dress Barn Wedding | Benton Harbor, MI
Kelsey and Nick’s dreamy boho wedding took place on August 1st, 2020 in Benton Harbor, MI. Originally, both the ceremony and reception were supposed to take place at Sundance Studios, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, their wedding ceremony was held at Sundance Studios, and their reception was held at a sister Michigan wedding venue, The Blue Dress Barn, which is also located in Benton Harbor. Although this wasn’t the original plan, Kelsey and Nick’s wedding was still a dazzling celebration with their friends, family, and two adorable French bulldogs.
Kelsey and Nick met in high school and have been together for 10 years! When they met, Nick was a junior and Kelsey was a freshman. Nick knew Kelsey as “the girl with blue eyes,” and after some encouragement from friends, Nick sent Kelsey a friendly message on Facebook, and the rest is history. Well, after Kelsey’s two rejections (after all he was an older man) the rest was history. They started dating on August 24th in 2011, which is why it was important to them to get married in August.
Nick’s proposal was well planned and appropriate for their epic 10-year relationship. He proposed on their dating anniversary in 2019 about a year after the couple had bought their first home. They had plans to celebrate their anniversary by going to Top Golf and then to a nice dinner in the evening. Before they left for Top Golf, Nick told Kelsey he had to set up her present on the back deck which confused her. She had no idea he was going to propose! She was actually convinced that he got her an umbrella for their patio. When they got home, they walked around to the back yard, where their entire family was there waiting for them. At that moment, Kelsey knew what was about to happen. Nick had a speech prepared, and he told Kelsey he needed to go into the house to get her ring. If the proposal wasn’t enough of a surprise, when Nick came out with the ring, he was also holding their new puppy, Scout! After the proposal, their family joined them for dinner. Before the night was over, Nick had one more trick up his sleeve. When they returned home from dinner with their family, their friends were at their house waiting to celebrate their engagement with them.
On their big day, Kelsey and Nick were both so excited to finally get married. With COVID restrictions, they weren’t sure they were going to be able to have their wedding until the very last minute. Kelsey is a planner, and she had been planning their wedding since she was 15 years old.
They decided not to do a first look, so they were both full of jitters as Kelsey walked down the aisle. They wanted their wedding to be personal, so the couple wrote their own vows and had Kelsey’s brother perform the ceremony. Nick’s mother passed away in 2018, so they laid a single white rose on a chair in the front row in her honor. Nick’s grandmother, his mother’s mother, was there to escort him down the aisle. Their two French bulldogs acted as ring bearers, which brought some welcomed laughter to their ceremony.
After the ceremony and a few pictures, the party was moved over to The Blue Dress Barn where Kelsey’s wedding vision had come to life. The venue was transformed into the definition of boho chic, complete with string lights, greenery, blush-colored flowers, and subtle gold accents. It was truly a dream, and it set the perfect scene for this couple’s long-awaited celebration.
Kelsey and Nick, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wedding day! I am so grateful to have met you and your beautiful family, and I wish you all the happiness in the world.
